As reported in today’s Los Angeles Times travel section, Artist Drive in Death Valley National Park has reopened after having been closed due to flood damage. The road had been blocked by eight tons of debris. Artist Drive is a must-see nine-mile loop off the Badwater Road south of Furnace Creek.
However, the floods that occurred October 18 have closed Scotty’s Castle indefinitely. It could be several months before the popular attraction reopens. The Mesquite Campground is also closed. It’s unclear if the road to Ubehebe Crater is passable, but my guess is that’s it’s not. Check at the ranger station at Stovepipe Wells or Furnace Creek before heading out.
