  • “Big Sur isn’t a place.  It’s a state of mind.”

However you choose to define Big Sur, the important thing is that you can get there from here.  That’s because California’s iconic Highway One just reopened after having closed in May 2017 following a devastating flood.

In honor of the occasion, we offer you this photographic tribute, using some of the most beautiful images I could find in Google Photos.  Our featured photo is of the magnificent Bixby Creek Bridge.

The most popular walk in the Big Sur area is the trail to the overlook for McWay Falls, which drop 80 feet into the ocean or beach, depending on the tide.

Big Sur is near the southern limit of the coast redwoods.  Many of Big Sur’s forests have never been logged.

Trails in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park lead to seasonal Pfeiffer Falls.

Here are some additional; coastal  views.
